Characters

The following are the major characters from the play Hamlet (avoiding spoilers and surprises).

Hamlet

Hamlet, Prince of Denmark (Peter Parker/ Spider-Man): The main character.  He is depressed because his father (Hamlet Sr.) recently died, and his mother just married his father’s brother. 

Claudius

Claudius, King of Denmark (Otto Octavius/ Dr. Octopus): Brother to Hamlet’s father, and now husband to his mother.  In addition, he is now the new King. 

Gertrude

Gertrude, Queen of Denmark (Aunt May/May Parker): Mother to Hamlet.

Polonius

Polonius (Captain George Stacy): Lord Chamberlain of Claudius’s court, and a buttinsky.  He is the father of Laertes and Ophelia. 

Horatio

Horatio (Mary Jane Watson): Hamlet’s trusted friend (note that in the play, Horatio is a male character; here, he is represented by a female character). 

Ophelia

Ophelia (Gwen Stacy): Polonius’s beautiful daughter.  She begins the play in a relationship with Hamlet.

Laertes

Laertes (Harry Osborn): Polonius’s son, who spends much of the play away from Denmark.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (J. Jonah Jameson & Robbie Robertson): Two former acquaintances of Hamlet’s.   

Fortinbras

Fortinbras, Prince of Norway (Flash Thompson): He wishes to attack Denmark and avenge the death of his father (Fortinbras Sr., who was previously killed by Hamlet Sr.). 

The Ghost

The Ghost (??????): Some say this ghostly apparition resembles Prince Hamlet’s recently deceased father, the former King of Denmark.
